The Inhotim Institute is an open-air museum located at Brumadinho city, 65km away from Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais state. It was recently nominated as one of the best museums in the world, in a global ranking of 25, according to Trip Advisor´s research and award. Inside South America, it occupies the second position in a ranking of 10.
The complex counts with one of the most significant collections of contemporary art in the world and a botanical collection containing rare species from every continent. It features a series of pavilions and galleries with works of art and sculptures on display in the gardens. Inhotim provides an experience mainly involving a spatial relationship between art and nature that allows the artists to create and show their work in unique conditions. The Institute has rare beauty and a landscaping design that exploits all the aesthetic possibilities of the botanical collection. More than objects of contemplation, the gardens are a field for floral studies, cataloging of new species and environmental education actions. The spectator is invited to stroll through gardens, roaming among lakes, trails, mountains and valleys, actively experiencing the space.
