The Bahian coast is world famous as a nesting ground for the humpback whale (megaptera novaeangliae). It is one of the most endangered species on the planet, the one-time population of 150,000 is now estimated to be 35,000.
From August to October, it is possible to observe this amazing animal at Praia do Forte village, near Salvador city. The tour is provided in conjunction with the Institute Baleia Jubarte, (the Brazilian Humpback Whale Institute).
Tours are daily, starting at 09:00 and returning at 15:00, made on a regular, comfortable schooner, with an experienced crew, bilingual guide and accompanying biologist.
